What is Rhinoplasty?
Cosmetic nose surgery (rhinoplasty) is an aesthetic treatment performed to change the look of the nose. In addition, it can help improve breathing function in some patients. Even though rhinoplasty consists of slight changes, results usually are impressively dramatic. Cosmetic nose surgery at ENT Facial Plastics and Sleep Disorder Center can be performed to make your nose appear smaller in size or change a nose that is misshapen, protrudes out, is too large or wide, or has a bump on top. Dr. Seymour's goal is to create a more aesthetically appealing nose that meets your cosmetic desires and functions well. Who is a candidate for rhinoplasty?
Patients who are not satisfied by the appearance of their nose may be a candidate for rhinoplasty surgery. Some people have a large bump on the bridge of the nose or a wide, bulbous-shaped tip that they feel detracts from their overall appearance. Others may have trouble breathing properly due to structural issues like a deviated septum. During your first visit, you will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns and expectations with Dr. Seymour. If you are in generally good health and have reasonable expectations about results, we can create a personalized rhinoplasty treatment plan for your needs.
What are the benefits of rhinoplasty?
Many people turn to cosmetic injections to correct small cosmetic issues with their noses, but there are limitations to this form of treatment. The results do not last long, and re-treatments can be expensive over time. Plus, injections can't do anything to change the underlying facial structures. Rhinoplasty surgery offers a more permanent solution to help you achieve the nose shape of your dreams. ENT Facial Plastics and Sleep Disorder Center have helped countless people who feel self-conscious in social situations or want to improve their breathing.
What Can I Expect During my Rhinoplasty procedure?
Rhinoplasty is performed while you are under sedation, such as general anesthesia, and is considered an outpatient surgery. Dr. Seymour performs rhinoplasty using either an open or closed technique, depending on what's being addressed. The objective during the procedure is to remove excess tissue and cartilage or to build and increase cartilage if needed for reshaping. The nasal features are repositioned while the skin is reformed and draped over the newly structured framework. Sutures are implemented either on the inside portion of your nose or along the natural external fold. Following your rhinoplasty, you will be carefully monitored in the recovery section, and then our nurses will release you to recover at home. Your nose will be bruised and swollen for a week or so. In most cases, there is some discoloration under the eyes in addition to the nose. Cold compresses and pain medication can help reduce these effects. Your post-operative appointment with Dr. Seymour will be scheduled within a day or so after surgery to check your healing process. It generally takes about 2 – 4 weeks to heal from rhinoplasty. During this time, strenuous activity should be avoided.
What to Expect After Rhinoplasty
After rhinoplasty with the ENT Facial Plastics and Sleep Disorder Center, patients rest comfortably in a recovery room before being released home. The area around the nose may be swollen and bruised for a few days. In most cases, there is some discoloration beneath the eyes in addition to the nose. Cold compresses and pain medication can help with these effects. Your follow-up appointment with Dr. Seymour will take place within 72 hours after surgery to check your progress. On average, it takes about 2 – 4 weeks to recover from nose surgery. Within this timeframe, strenuous activity should be avoided.
Rhinoplasty FAQ
How much does rhinoplasty cost?
The cost of nose reshaping surgery varies based on what technique is used and how complex your procedure is. Before estimating costs, Dr. Seymour will listen to your concerns and goals to help develop your custom treatment plan. When this is complete, he can go over costs for the facility, anesthesia, and more. To get your best results, it's important to focus on choosing an experienced surgeon, like Dr. Seymour, instead of the cheapest cost. To help make your surgery easy to afford, ENT Facial Plastics and Sleep Disorder Center accept several payment methods, and our office can help you find low-interest financing.
Will my insurance cover functional nose surgery?
Although rhinoplasty for cosmetic reasons is not paid for by insurance, if your nose reshaping surgery is considered medically necessary to improve your breathing, some of your costs may be covered by insurance. If you may be applying for reimbursement from your insurance, please tell Dr. Seymour in your consultation. We can help you submit any needed information and paperwork to your insurance to properly process your claim.
Are there nonsurgical options to change my nose?
To smooth the appearance of lumps and bumps on your nose, a wrinkle filler (like Restylane® or JUVÉDERM®) might be an option. An injectable filler can temporarily improve minor imperfections on your nose, which might help you decide to proceed with rhinoplasty. Nose surgery is better for larger changes, long-lasting results, and to adjust the internal structure for better function. At your consultation, Dr. Seymour can let you know if you may be a candidate for nonsurgical nose reshaping.
What about ethnic rhinoplasty?
Ethnic rhinoplasty is about improving the appearance of the nose while still keeping your cultural identity. This may be a consideration if you are African-American, Asian, or Middle Eastern. In your consultation with Dr. Seymour, you can talk about what you like about your nose and what you would like to change. This will allow him to personalize your treatment plan — so you get your best results.
Can I combine nose surgery with other facial surgeries?
Many patients consider combining rhinoplasty with another procedure, like cheek or chin augmentation. Having multiple surgeries for a dramatic result can be discussed during your consultation with Dr. Seymour. Once he understands your goals, he can help you choose what procedures should be in your treatment plan. Rhinoplasty can often help make your whole face appear more balanced, so you should wait to see your results before considering another procedure.
