What are Nasal Polyps?
Nasal polyps are soft and painless growths that form in the nasal passage. They often occur where the sinuses drain into the nose. This could be the result of chronic inflammation — often from infection, allergies, or an immune disorder. While small nasal polyps may be harmless, larger ones can lead to blocking the nasal passage, loss of sense of smell, and even breathing difficulties. Board-certified ENT/facial plastic surgeon Dr. B. Terry Seymour offers treatment for nasal polyps at ENT Facial Plastics and Sleep Disorder Center. For more information on this condition and possible treatments, contact Dr. Seymour in Atlanta or Lithonia, GA.

What Can I Expect from Nasal Polyps Treatment?
While it's not fully understood what causes nasal polyps, it is known that it can develop at any age but is most common in younger children. Oftentimes, conditions such as asthma, allergies to airborne fungi, cystic fibrosis, and Vitamin D deficiencies are associated with nasal polyps. After a brief physical exam and getting the answers to a few simple questions, Dr. Seymour can diagnose nasal polyps. Once identified, he can treat them. Medications are often the first line of defense when trying to shrink and eliminate nasal polyps. There are a variety of medications available today to help with this task. In some cases, however, surgery may be necessary. If that is the case, Dr. Seymour will perform endoscopic surgery to remove the nasal polyps and even fix the sinus issues that are leading to them. This treatment usually involves creating a larger opening between the sinuses and nasal passages. A nasal spray may be suggested following treatment to prevent them from occurring in the future.
Breathe and Smell Easier
If you or your child have noticed difficulty breathing, a loss of smell, a persistent runny nose, or pain in the upper teeth, nose, or head, it could be a sign of nasal polyps. While these grape-like growths on the inside of the nasal passage are often harmless, they can be bothersome and cause difficulty breathing. At ENT Facial Plastics and Sleep Disorder Center, board-certified ENT/facial plastic surgeon Dr. B. Terry Seymour offers nasal polyps diagnosis and treatment to help you breathe easier.
